Hello!
I'm a researcher and educator working at the crossroads of artificial intelligence, semiotics and the digital humanities. I am Maître d'Enseignement et de Recherche (MER) in Data Science at the University of Lausanne and a Research Fellow at Harvard University's metaLAB. I hold a PhD in Computer Science and Mathematical Methods for the Human Sciences from the University of Lausanne and a Master's degree in Philosophy of Science and Cognitive Psychology from the Università di Bologna, and I have worked at Columbia University and Microsoft.
I am the Swiss Principal Investigator of the SNSF/DFG project Peirce Interprets Peirce (2025-2028), which brings AI to the manuscripts of Charles S. Peirce together with RWTH Aachen, the Bibliotheca Hertziana, the University of Groningen and Harvard. With Alberto Romele I wrote ChatGPT: Una biografia intellettuale (Fandango Libri, 2025). In 2025 and 2026 I was Visiting Professor at the Sorbonne Nouvelle, the University of Turin and the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Bologna, and I sit on the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Umberto Eco.
From 2017 to 2023 I founded and led Cogniprise as CEO, a company providing data consulting services to B2B companies.
My expertise lies in natural language processing, large language models, knowledge representation and data science. I'm passionate about bridging the gap between academia, business and society, so that research is not only academically sound but also relevant and socially responsible.
